ABOUT US
(Chapter One)

NM Local Government Law, LLC (NMLGL) was formed in March 2020 when Randy Autio and Patrick Trujillo, having spent their careers in public service to the citizens of New Mexico, decided to continue delivering those same services with a private legal practice. The core value of NMLGL is to provide the best legal services possible, at a fair price, to the local governments of New Mexico.

For our clients, we have brought together over 350 years of combined government legal expertise.

For our employees, we have created a supportive, collegial environment, with flexibility and competitive pay.  At NMLGL, you do not need your name on the door to make a good living.

"Times they are a-changin'." Truer words were never sung. Formed at the beginning of COVID, NMLGL has created a new paradigm: Our personnel - attorneys and staff alike - work full time and part time, in the office, remotely, and at our clients’ offices, all across New Mexico.  For all our personnel, we aim to achieve a healthy balance between work and lives; between practices and personal priorities. We pay folks based on their experience and their contribution to the practice, not on their position in an artificial hierarchy.

Our practice focuses on four different service areas: We offer legal services as general counsel to local governments; we defend local governments and the State of New Mexico against civil lawsuits; we aid governments in all aspects of public employment law; and we provide services on property-tax law for New Mexico's County Assessors.

At the end of the day, our primary mission is public service; in a democracy, an attorney really has no higher calling. Better yet, ours is an incredibly varied and exciting practice. We get to argue important public-policy issues before the highest courts; we get to draft policies and laws that make a positive difference for our communities, and we help ensure free and fair elections. Not many legal practices let you help solve an urban community's homeless problem in the morning and help get clean water to a rural community in the evening.  Maybe the best part is the chance to work with a "who's who" of New Mexico local government attorneys, and a handpicked staff of talented professionals, in a friendly environment far from the dog-eat-dog grind of big-firm life.

But that's just Chapter One.  We can't wait to see where the next chapters take us.  If you like the way our story starts, let us know! We'd love to talk to you about helping us write more.
