Nick Autio graduated from UNM’s School of Law in 2014 and he was admitted to practice law in New Mexico that same year. During law school, he was awarded the CALI award for excellence in evidence and trial practice. Since 2014, Nick Autio has been admitted to practice in all state courts in New Mexico, the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Autio has spent his entire career representing governmental entities and employees of those entities against Section 1983 claims, claims brought under the New Mexico Tort Claims Act, and, in recent years, claims under the New Mexico Civil Rights Act. The majority of Nick Autio’s work has been focused on representing law enforcement agencies, law enforcement officers, and county correctional facilities in a variety of litigation. Mr. Autio also has significant experience in litigating employment related matters, with an emphasis on defending claims brought under the Whistleblower Protection Act. In addition to his civil defense practice, he also successfully represented APD Officer Dominque Perez in the criminal case that resulted from the deadly force Officer Perez used against James Boyd in 2014.
